Through workshops, residencies, and immersive programmes, you are invited into a world where play meets truth - where the absurd, the emotional, and the deeply human are all welcome. Founded and led by Zuma Puma- a Canadian contemporary clown now based in the UK. Clownlife creates spaces where performance becomes transformation. On stage and off, this work is about breaking patterns, following impulse, and discovering what happens when you stop trying to “get it right” and start being real. Offerings include international workshops, artistic residencies, and advanced programmes, as well as tailored courses for universities and creative institutions around the world. The Clownlife pedagogy is focused on self research through the art and practice of clown, with a strong focus on well-being and mindful living.
Exploring the central questions:
Who are you in relation to the self, the other and the natural world beyond?
What is ridiculous about you?
How do you see you?
How does the world see you?
How do you connect?
How do you fail, or in other words, flop?
Can you laugh with yourself?
What are the different masks (of your personality) that you wear?
And ultimately, how can we insist on following our pleasure to awaken our life force, to not take this life for granted, but rather express authentically, true to our nature?
How do we find our inward freedom, not only to liberate ourselves, but our audiences too?
This work can lead to profound transformation, not just in our performance and stage practice, but above all in our lives, if we let I t.
Where Does It Come From?
Clownlife is rooted in both performance training and personal development.
Zuma Puma has trained in clown for over 16 years with more than 50 teachers from a wide range of styles, aesthetics, and pedagogies from around the world.
Alongside this, her work is informed by studies in personal and spiritual development, including Neuro Linguistic Programming ( Master Practitioner), Embodied Dreamwork, shamanic apprenticeships, vision quests, rites of passage, and ongoing mentorship.

ARTISTIC NATURE RETREATS
Clown and Ritual retreats and residencies bring clown into direct relationship with the natural world.
These are immersive spaces for curious, courageous artists ready to explore clown, ritual, and performance through lived experience - not just theory. Working in wild and beautiful landscapes, the land becomes part of the process. A mirror, a collaborator, a stage. Together, we create, play, dance, sing, laugh, and live in community. We devise new material, share in honest conversation, and engage in non-religious rituals that honour the clown’s wisdom — within us and beyond us. WEEKEND INTENSIVES
Join Clownlife for a 2-day intensive in playful self-development through the vehicle of clown.
Together, we explore play, connection, failing well, authenticity, self-acceptance, and risk — discovering more of who you are and what makes you funny along the way. These workshops welcome all walks of life- from professional performers, comedians, and public speakers to anyone curious about themselves, community, and a good dose of laughter. Zuma meets each participant where they are at. Whether you’re brand new or returning to deepen your practice, there is always more to uncover. INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS
Introductory courses are designed for those curious about clown and wanting to experience the work first-hand.
These sessions typically run for around two hours and are sometimes offered as part of a longer series of weekly evening classes. They provide a grounded introduction to the embodied practice of clown — not just as a performance skill, but as a way of being beyond the stage. Workshops include movement, games, a short history of the clown nose, and an exploration of the philosophy behind the work — as well as how clown is expressed today across circus, street, theatre, and beyond. If you’ve seen clowning before, or simply feel curious to explore it for yourself without knowing anything at all, this is a place to begin. Join the mailing list to hear about upcoming courses. ONLINE COURSES
Clownlife online courses offer a space to get creative, connect with others around the world, and feel supported in your practice - all from the comfort of your own home.
Held on Zoom, these courses usually run as a series, allowing time to build momentum and support your creative process. Whether you see yourself as creative or not - whether you’re a professional or a beginner - these courses are for you. I believe art is food for the soul and should be accessible to everyone. Creativity isn’t about being the best- it’s about tapping into your life force and expressing it. The courses follow the arc of the hero’s journey and are grounded in wellbeing. Each week, we meet for two hours to move, write, create, share, clown, and support one another. This is a space to reconnect with your creativity - and with each other.
